social or solitary?

Guinea Pigs are social creatures and require companion animals so they must be kept in pairs or trios.

Enclosure Requirements

Minimum enclosure size for 2 Guinea Pigs is 7.55 square feet (length x width of your enclosure) and 10.50 square feet for 3 Guinea Pigs. A “C&C” cage or a Midwest GP Habitat are the recommended style of enclosure.

diet

The bulk of your Guinea Pig’s diet should be an unlimited supply of a good quality grass hay such as timothy hay or orchard grass. A high-quality pellet food, such as Oxbow Essentials or Garden Select, should also be provided and acts as a kind of “multi-vitamin” supplement to their grass hay diet. Before considering adopting, you must ensure that you and/or your family/room-mates are not allergic to grass hay; you can do so by purchasing a small amount and leaving some in open containers throughout your home for a short period of time in order to see if you develop a reaction.
